UK Car Production Highest Since 2008

uk car production highest since 2008UK car production is in the midst of a renaissance of sorts as recent figures out of manufacturing plants are nothing short of impressive. August was especially above average as the same month last year was at a 40% deficit compared with this year. Overall number of cars produced in the UK this year totals more than 1,011,000. This is the highest number of cars created in UK plants since 2008.

Big production numbers are a story in itself, but news of the VW emissions scandal has overshadowed the data. Many in and around the car manufacturing world are looking with skepticism about the possibility that other car makers have not engaged in the same type of practice to protect the amount of pollution their cars are creating. This is an effort to control their ability to continue to stay on the road without controversy.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, commented on the current production figures, saying: “The quieter summer months are traditionally subject to fluctuation as production is paused for essential upgrades, and August’s strong growth wasn’t unexpected given the 22.1pc fall in the same month last year when the 2014 holiday period fell. The rise also follows a flatter July in line with this year’s earlier scheduled shutdown.”

All cars coming off the production line require car cover before legally hitting the road. Cover which continues to turn heads of both parents and their young drivers is telematics car insurance. Telematics is a unique cover which rewards drivers by monitoring habits of drivers at any time they are behind the wheel. Rewards include discounts which are applied to future monthly insurance premium costs.
